question about microchipping dogs?
My sister’s boyfriend told me his vet microchipped his puppy–not with the standard chip, but with a chip that has GPS capability. For instance, if his dog gets lost, they can "track" it and find it. Has anyone else heard of this? The only microchips I know are the ones that have to be scanned by shelters, vets, etc.

Yes, I’ve heard of it and it’s expensive. It’ll be good if you’re always travelling or on the road or camp alot. I have a pitbull and a yorkie and they just have regular microchips.

I think your sister’s bf is full of it.
While that may be possible in the future, gps tracking chips are not currently on the market for implanting our pets.
I’m pretty sure it was a "normal" chip and he just wants to sound cool.

No, I havn’t heard of that at all. The store that I got my dog from said that there wasn’t such a thing. There was only a chip where it has programed where he lives. So, if someone finds him when he’s lost, they can take him to the shelter and get him scanned for a chip. If he has one, it will tell where he lives, then he can be returned.

He’s jerking your chain. LOL The pup would need a transmitter.

I think he must have miss understood. There is no chip that can be followed by GPS at this time.

Never heard of one, but it is a good idea. In the meantime, they need to get it together and actually make it possible to locate people by their cell phones like they do on all the television shows.
As far as I have heard, the most advanced program now is one that if your dog or cat is lost, you let them know, and they notify all the vets that belong to their program. But not the same as GPS capability. Some day, tho.
