I see so many lost dog posts on my local craigslist pet section. It just breaks my heart to think of how cruel it is for people to keep dogs that don’t belong to them.
I heard of this GPS collar for dogs and I was wondering if anyone knows anything about them.
I live on a farm… it’s around 3 miles out of town, and we have problems with our dogs.
They stick around well when someone is outside, but if you don’t pay attention for a while, they tend to run off because they are very active dogs that like to chase wildlife.
They can be gone for up to a day or two at times, so I was wondering if there was some simple GPS system I could get to be able to find them when they disappear?
I thought maybe microchipping them would work but researched it and found that is not what I want at all. I want a GPS , so I can go out and find them myself, so only option I can think of is a GPS collar, but some of them make you set up a boundry and when the dog leaves it, it sounds an alarm and you can find them, which might work but we would have quite a large boundry since we live on a farm.
Any good products out there that are fast and simple?
We have a dalmatian. My husband has had one before that was stolen. A co-worker of mine has had a dalmatian that has been stolen.
Is GPS for dogs an option since we are prone to having our dalmatians stolen?
At first when microchipping started I and other people we under the impression that you could track your dogs anywhere.
Well that wasn’t the case… so I’ve never thought Microchipping was that great… say my dog gets lost or someone takes it
Not everyone is going to be honest and say they just found the dog and therefore they may never be scanned for microchip.
I’m just curious because I know I would pay out the money for a GPS chip or device for my dogs
Do you think it will ever happen?
I just feel GPS would be the only real guarantee of getting your dog back
if its on the collar it wouldn’t matter people are dishonest and could just take it off.
Tracking dogs are usually used to find people, but I want to know if you have the person and wanted to find where they came from could you use a dog?

I haven’t had either of my dogs microchipped yet because I don’t know much about it and I’m not sure how I feel about it. Since they can’t GPS track them and its just luck if someone gets the dog and takes the dog to a vet or shelter and they check for it.
I see so many dogs on craiglist where someone found them and immediately tries to sell them
I’ve also heard that the chips can cause problems, pain and sometimes illness is this true.
We will be traveling with them soon and is it expensive to microchip….I know at the last vet we were at (before we moved) it was 75 per dog plus registration fee
We haven’t asked the new vet yet.
Where is the best place to get it done, probably the vet right?
We are in TN
What are the pros and cons….I know a pro is I heard a story about a husky that ended up 3 states away and the owner was able to get him back (He was stolen and sold)
Anyways thanks
My dogs are 14 months old and 10 months old
what are our affordable options…only one of us is working right now so if there is a cheaper way but still safe that would be great

Does anyone know where I can get inexpensive tracking devices for my dogs in the event they get lost? I want to be able to look them up in the computer (sort of like a gps – map) and pick them up where they are by looking at the street/intersection/address where they are.

Dogs are now tracked by a small implated chip in their neck, it is registered with the dog regisrty and every time they go to a vet it’s scanned and if the dog is lost or stolen it will come up with owners info. Why can’t we do soething like this for our kids? and put sensors installed in public places when a lost or kidnapped child passes by a signal goes off and a GPS tracking device tells police where they are? Then at 18 they can have the chip removed if they want when they are on their own. Come on parents what’s your take on this? if you HAVE kids you know what I mean, you could maybe even check their where abouts 24 hours a day with a GPS web site service? no more wondering fi they are in school right now check the web site!! million dollar idea if you ask me!
Tell the parents of abducted children how LAZY they were to have their kids stolen from them! It’s a great idea to know 24/7 where kids are and it would also cut down the abductions for fear of the child having a chip in him or her.
Maybe have it so it’s not activated unless they are abducted? like lojac for kids? Hey even the Hospital nursery have a electronic tag system when babies are there.

i was wondering what is the purpose of paying for a collar to tra ck your pet when the person who finds them and wants them can just take it off if they wanted your pet i have a problem with people trying to keep my dogs when they jump my fence so i was going to get them one of those collars but i was wondering how secure is it and another thing if someone gets caught with your animal and they found it and it had tags and everything will they get in trouble?
ok its not like im a bad owner but my dogs are very pretty and there pure breed pitbulls and they are girls and i have a white one with blue eyes and a chocolate one with hazel eyes and a fawn boxer and both my pits got out before on different occusions and people were trying to keep them and show them off and i caught them my dogs can club my fence and when they do get out its cause my neighbor feed stray cats and they see them and want to chase them while there outside while im letting them out to go potty i might go get the phone and come back its that quick i think people should get in trouble for that it is technically like stealing

i’m looking to get a gps for my car, but i can’t decide which to get. what is the difference between some of these really expensive models and the ones that are several hundred dollars cheaper? don’t they all just take you from point A to point B? i don’t need something that i can plug my ipod into, do my biology homework, or feed the dogs, i just need a decent gps that won’t get me lost.
